When it comes to making tea, there are two types of people, those content to jiggle a teabag around in a mug and be done with it, and those who dive deep into the ritual of tea brewing. Whilst neither is superior to the other, (nothing wrong with a jiggler), this post is targeted at those who adore the process and the paraphernalia that comes with tea brewing. Call us tea practitioners, tea connoisseurs, or tea boffins—we just love the clink of a teaspoon against a tea cup, the swish of a matcha whisk in a ceramic bowl, the strike of a match under a tea warmer, and the bleed of red tea leaves into hot water!
Why we love Teaware!
Tea is not only about consuming a beverage. There are so many aspects to the process a tea lover can explore. For a start, there are the seemingly endless array of teas and tissanes to choose from. There are the temperatures they are best brewed at, and the different flavours that come from drinking them hot or cold. There is the visual impact of watching tea leaf colour leaching into hot water, and of course, the impact of the drinking vessel on the experience (do you choose to drink your tea from a glass, mug, bowl, or do you sip through a straw?). Then there are the rituals surrounding tea. Do you brew it solo, or brew for a group? Do you drink it alone or together? There are, quite simply, so many aspects to tea brewing and drinking that you could never tire of it.
And this is why we tea aficionados love our teaware so much, and can always find ways to fit more tea gadgets into our kitchens. A teaware set is essential to us, but why stop at one? We might choose to own two glass teapots (one round, one square), but also five ceramic pots! Add to that, a teapot that mounts to a tea warmer is essential, because keeping our beverage warm is the height of tea sophistication! And then there’s the variety of tea infusers we might own, to use with our teapots and teacups. And if we’re serious about tea, we need a thermal tea bottle we can carry our tea around in, and an array of tea tins to hold our stashes of tea.
For home, we absolutely need a tea tray to carry our teapot and cup on, and a tea chest to display our specialty tea bags in. And for matcha green tea lovers, a matcha tea set is obligatory, complete with a tin for the green treasure that is matcha powder, a matcha whisk, and a whisk stand (you can’t just leave your whisk lying on the table!). And if you’re serious about tea, you’ll also have at least three different types of tea strainers, some tea infusers, an ergonomically-designed iced tea cup, and a tea drinking straw (for your yerba mates of course).
Teaware You Must Own
Teapots
If you enjoy brewing loose leaf tea, then a teapot makes your life easier. Whilst you can use a tea infuser and brew in a cup, a teapot is a larger vessel that allows more space for the tea flavours to leach out into the water, creating a delicious flavour. Add to that, a pot-brewed tea can be shared, so it’s a great option if you enjoy tea in company.
At Tea Tonic, we know our customers appreciate teapots that are a little bit different, which is why we offer a Square Glass Teapot set, with stainless steel infuser and lid included. Made from borosilicate glass, this teapot is designed to withstand fast and extreme shifts in temperature, which is exactly what you need in a teapot! This teapot makes two cups, so invite your bestie over for a cuppa and enjoy!
We also offer a round, 6 cup Glass Teapot set with infuser pod made from stainless steel, as well as a Teawarmer Set that includes both teapot and round teawarmer that sits beneath it. Our glass teapots allow you to enjoy the visual experience of observing hot water and tea leaves transform into a divine, colourful brew!
Teapot Warmer
If you like to take your time enjoying tea, then it’s likely your tea will go cold in the pot before you finish it. That’s why a Teapot Warmer is so handy. Simply light a candle, and your tea will stay toasty until you’re ready to finish it. No heating in the microwave required!
Matcha Set
Sure, you can make matcha tea using a mug and a teaspoon, but it’s not quite the same as brewing it the authentic way. To brew matcha in an orthodox fashion, you will require a chasen (a bamboo matcha whisk), a matcha whisk stand (designed to maintain the natural curve of your matcha whisk, and of course, high-quality matcha powder. You can buy these items individually, or invest in a complete Matcha Starter Set or Matcha Essentials Set, which combine different tools and tea.
Thermal Tea Bottle
So you’ve brewed the perfect tea and you want to sip on it all day long? You absolutely need a Thermal Tea Bottle, which will keep your tea at your preferred temperature. Whether you enjoy your tea hot, cold, or something in between, a thermal tea bottle makes maintaining temperature easy.
Glass Tea Mug
You can drink tea out of a dainty porcelain cup, a sturdy ceramic mug, or even an enamel mug, but there’s nothing quite like using a glass tea mug. With glass, you can see your brew develop, and based on sight alone, know exactly when your drink is ready. The Glass Tea Mug at Tea Tonic comes with an infuser and lid that doubles as an infuser drip tray.
Glass Wine Bottle
It’s for tea, not wine! This handy Glass Wine Bottle at Tea Tonic allows you to infuse your tea in a bottle and then pour it into your cup through a silicone strainer that filters out the leaves. This is especially useful for those who enjoy their tea or tissanes cold, and is a lovely piece to have sitting on the dining table, as an alternative to a bottle of wine (for those teetotallers among us!).
Tea Infusers
Different tea infusers work in different ways, so it’s helpful to have a few options at home. You might like an Iced Tea Infuser that you can place into a water bottle, or a novelty Rainbow Unicorn Silicone Infuser, that sits half in/half on your cup. You might also need a simple Butterfly Tea Infuser to dangle into your cup, or a Stainless Steel Tea Infuser with tongs attached.
Tea Chest
Those who love to display their teabag collection will appreciate having a Tea Chest or two in their kitchen. Buy them empty, or pre-filled with a range of delicious Tea Tonic teas!
